"Gifted"
I think it is the most interesting movie I have watched the last months. I am so excited to have watched it. So simple and yet so great!!!
It must be really challenging to raise a prodigy. It must be really challenging to put all your efforts in raising a child and not a computer mind. It is of real greatness to see an uncle quitting his job and moving away in order to provide a carefree life to his genius niece. And he has put all his resources to raise her in a way that her huge brain will not end up a curse.
What happens though when school, law and a very opinionated mother gets into the picture? How can you protect what you are trying to build? How can you provide the serenity to a child without turning it into a robot? How can you be sure that your choices are the best for her sake?
And how can you abandon a crying child that looks into your eyes and tells you "Don't leave me here!"
Perfect movie. Perfect. A clever kid, an affectionate uncle, a caring neighbour, an interested teacher, a great mathematician mother who committed suicide and a grandmother who confused focused work and dedication to goals with the life purpose of a person.
I loved the discussions they had about God. I loved the way he understood why she was raising the questions she raised. I loved the fact that he risked and prioritised. That he set rules. That he loved in a unique way. I love maths. I love clever people. But more than anything, I love the human connection that can occur from a sincere relationship like this.
Watch it. I cried...
