Lessons-learnt from a wannabe pole dancer
What type of person are you? Are you the "love the static pole" person? Maybe the "love the spinning pole" personality? Or even the "I am adaptive, I dance on both like a proper champion" human?
For those who are not familiar with vertical gymnastics/ pole dancing, I want to explain a few things. The professional poles have two function modes. The static and the spinning. The setting of the mode is based on the bearing that the pole has on its bottom. Screwing it will turn a spinning pole into a static one.
The static one is the one that does not move at all, the spinning is the one that if you try to rotate, it will rotate freely, both ways.
Why do I explain all these? You will figure it out soon.
In order to dance, you need to use a different gripping technique when you are on a static pole than when you are on a spinning pole. In order to spin around on a static pole, you need to open out, stretch your body away from the pole, and then get the spin and start spinning and rolling. Focus on that word, please. Rolling.
When you dance on a spinning pole, since the pole spins with a simple touch, you just need to grab really hard and spin like that. Grab. That is the focus word for this technique.
So, spinning you need to grab. Static you need to ease and relax your grip to have a graceful result.
My whole point is, learn from the pole. Learn that sometimes in life, it is better to let go things and use a relaxed grip in order to spin gracefully. If you grab too hard, and especially if you do it on the wrong pole, then you will never manage to spin and reach the feeling of the absolute flying. There are more ways to keep something close to you, you don't have to squeeze and hug all the time.
Imagine holding something so tight that friction hurts and then everything is ruined...
