"A prayer for the dying"

Well, when that movies was in theatres, I was 1 year old, or maybe less. I watched it this summer, because my movie mentor, Stavros, somehow wants to torture me, so I had to watch a lot of boring, or outdated movies. :) Ok. I am teasing Stavros now, but I do not mean it.
The movies he suggests have a deeper meaning and make a good point, but for different ages, and for different audiences.
Anyway, back to my opinion about the movie. Mickey Rourke, before he becomes like he became, and my sweet perfect Bob Hoskins. Liam Neeson of course, but let's be honest, he just appeared for 7 minutes or less.
The beginning of the movie was a bit tough. I liked it. Our star is an IRA bomber, who accidentally blew up a school bus while trying to blow up a troop truck. From this incident and on, he wants to leave IRA but of course that is out of the question, so he is chased by his own people. He performs a "last" crime, however, he has a witness, a priest.
The eye witness stays alive, because our star does not want to commit any more crimes, and he does not want to waste another innocent life. Somehow he gets into the priests life, he meets the priest's niece and fall in love, there are a lot of things happening that I find unnecessary and at the end, the bad guys chase the priest, threaten the niece, try to kill the star and pfff. No reason whatsoever. I could not care for the characters. I cannot remember the core idea of the movie. I thought from the beginning, that it could be a good movie. But I did not like the way it developed. Of course it is a famous movie with a lot of credits and good critics, but I would not put it in my top ten, for sure.
If you, you reading this post, find a good thing to say about this movie, please leave a comment. I want to be open-minded.
